The Tanjong Pandan Heritage

The Tanjong Pandan Heritage Tour is an immersive cultural experience that explores the historical heart of Tanjungpandan, a coastal town whose identity has been shaped by centuries of migration, trade, cultural exchange, and community life. Situated on Belitung Island, the town reflects a distinctive convergence of Billitonese traditions, Malay culture, Hakka-Hokkien Chinese heritage, Peranakan influences, and European colonial history. This experience invites participants to discover the stories behind the town's historic streets, architectural landmarks, traditional markets, religious spaces, and culinary traditions while gaining a deeper understanding of the social relationships that have shaped its multicultural identity.

Designed as a guided cycling journey, the tour combines urban exploration, historical interpretation, local gastronomy, and living cultural practices. Participants will visit selected heritage buildings, explore the historical significance of the spice trade, experience the lively atmosphere of the traditional fish market, and discover the flavours of a historic local kopitiam. The experience also introduces the spiritual traditions associated with Hok Tek Che Temple, where participants may have the opportunity to experience Ciamsi, a traditional Chinese fortune-drawing practice, subject to local customs and temple guidance. The journey concludes at Tanjungpendam Beach, where the setting sun provides a moment to reflect on the town's maritime character, cultural diversity, and enduring relationship with the sea.
